And what has Covid ever done for us…
A family & wedding documentary photographer’s perspective on lockdown.
In times like these, I think any blog needs to start with laughter… probably one of my most favourite films of all time. I am totally incapable of watching this without mouthing every word. What a master piece…
But to go back to my initial question, indeed, what has Covid ever done for us? If you were to make a list of all the positive (and not so positive) (it’s all about celebrating our ying-yang, right) from this period, I wonder what would be at the top of your piece of paper…
Would it be having had the time to spend with your newborn and just admire her little feet for hours?
Would it be having had the time to go on nice long walks with your family?
Would it be having the time to let go and be silly “together” …
Or do you now just have time to stare out of the window for however long you want without feeling guilty about it?
And maybe despite all the positives, sometimes it all gets a bit too much. Sometimes, this weird situation catches up with you. Sometimes, you just wish you could spend more time with those closest to you. With those who have been part of their development since day 1 and who for a couple of months now have been forced to stay away…
All I can say is that, I too, have been feeling up and down and that “up & down” is actually a healthy response. All I can say is that it feels we have been given a golden opportunity to hit the pause button. And I guess, maybe we may need to be careful right now. Whilst everything has paused, maybe we needn’t create our own little to-do list or DIY rat-race. There is nothing wrong with staring out of the window. There is nothing wrong with playing the same game for hours. There is nothing wrong with eating what you want to eat. There is nothing wrong with not running a marathon in your garden or courtyard. I think what would be wrong is to go back to it all exhausted. I feel that would be a missed opportunity.
So that’s my penny’s worth. Enjoy your moments.
Because our moments is all we have. And I think a pandemic has proven that.
And if you fancy taking a walk to your local part and you’d like some of this craziness to be documented now before it’s too late and you’d like it documented safely, why not consider a mini session with me? A 2 hour session which starts at your front-door, with a walk to your local park, with then perhaps a family picnic and a return back home?
If you would consider a mini family photography session, get in touch, let’s have a chat and let’s meet up. Let me capture your real moments. I think real is always better than perfect.
And if not, then see you on the other side (whenever that will be!), and keep enjoying those moments.
Take care people… and of course, stay safe.
Emily
