Islington Town Hall & The West Reservoir Wedding Photography

Tenderness. Affection. Energy. Authenticity. And yes the word authenticity is over-used, right. What does it even mean nowadays. Everyone is authentic now. Well… if we went back to the dictionary… Put simply, authenticity means you're true to your own personality, values, and spirit, regardless of the pressure that you're under to act otherwise. You're honest with yourself and with others. Your values, ideals, and actions align. Well, authentic is definitely what our couple was.

They wanted to avoid traditions that didn’t make sense to them… Lois made sewed her own outfit, they got ready together, they collected flowers from a local farm shop and created their own arrangement, they invited their key friends and bridal party to their flat first for champagne. Altogether they all then walked to Islington Town Hall. They walked into the ceremony room together. They wrote their own vows… and then once the least formal formalities were over and done with, we all took a vintage bus and headed over to where Lois goes to swim every weekend - The West Reservoir, which also happens to make a pretty jaw-dropping wedding venue… especially if, as you start the group shot, a rainbow decides to make an appearance.

The rest of the day followed that authentic vibe… they didn’t want a first dance, they didn’t want a ceremony around cutting the cake, they didn’t want speeches that last hours on end with in-jokes only a select few understand . They just wanted to celebrate their union in their own way with all the people they love around them.

And you know what… I dig that. Thus, here is their story.

Here is what Lois thought about her photographs:

Emily took photos at our wedding in London. Before our wedding, she took the time to understand us and was really helpful and communicative.

On the day, it was like having another friend with us - she brought so much joyful energy while also blending into the background to take photos. I can't thank her enough for making us both feel comfortable in front of the camera, for dancing all night, and for perfectly timing a rainbow.

Through her documentary style photography, Emily managed to capture each moment as it unfolded and the resulting images are candid, hilarious and timeless. She sent us some highlight photos the next day and the full gallery soon after, and they are all fantastic. Every time I look at the photos (which is very often!) I notice another detail. Best of all, they feel authentically 'us'. To say I'm obsessed with her photos is an understatement. Choosing our favourites is difficult as we have over 400 incredible pictures.

Our friends and family have all commented on how friendly, helpful and talented Emily is. Her photos are now the background on most of my friend's phones, and the highlights gallery moved my father-in-law to tears!

Overall we cannot recommend Emily highly enough for a wedding - investing in her photos was the best decision.
