Wedding Photography at Coombe Lodge, Somerset: An Autumnal wedding at its finest

Coombe Lodge has got to be up there with one my favourite venues. Not just because of its staff (who frankly will do everything to ensure your day is the best it could be) (and they treat suppliers like me incredibly well too), but mostly because the venue itself and the grounds offer an absolutely wonderful balance of elegance and subtlety. The food is out of this world, too, and consistently so. I have shot there a few times now and I am never ever disappointed.

So it’s no surprise that Astrid and Josh had an absolutely wonderful time, still buzzing a few weeks later when I send them over their images.

As usual, below, are images from the day itself. The couple actually married at their local Church, and then travelled a few miles to Coombe Lodge for their reception. We were so blessed on the day with absolutely beautiful autumnal light. The speeches were quite remarkable too. Us photographers do hear a few speeches over the years and some stay printed in our memories more than others, that’s for sure. I have to say that Astrid’s dad speech really nailed it. He couldn’t have celebrated his daughter with more love, pride and authenticity, with plenty of laughter along the way. Having had lost my own dad recently, I did find myself with shiny eyes a few times.

The couple kicked off their evening celebration with a fab first dance and father and bride dance too which also got me going (silly me, I know… I can’t help it I am afraid!), and as the band took a little break, the couple took their guests outside for sparklers as well as some surprise fireworks.

All in all, a lovely day at an absolutely lovely venue. I do hope I shoot there again very soon in the future. Just so I can eat their food again! 🤪
