Do I have a favourite type of wedding? Of course I do!

Of course I do. Any wedding photographer would lie if they said they didn’t have a favourite type of wedding. Do you know what a documentary photographer’s dream wedding is? It has nothing to do with the location, nothing to do with the dress codes, nothing to do with how beautiful the cake is, or the catering, or the make up artists or anything tangible. It is all to do with the personalities in the room. All to do with the vibe. All to do with how loving and tender the atmosphere is.

Matt and Emma’s wedding took place at Huntsham Court Country House, a completely idyllic wedding venue in Devon. The food was out of this world, the staff and caterers performing their best, the weather was spot on, and everyone looked absolutely stunning… BUT, actually… that’s not at all what moved me on the day. I have shot over 150 weddings now. I have shot them in from tiny locations (someone’s front room) to some of the UK’s most expensive wedding venues. Matt and Emma’s wedding was fantastic through and through. But it was fantastic not just on the surface, it was really quite wonderful… purely….because of the atmosphere. Because they were surrounded by people who were genuinely rooting for them.

This was my second time shooting a wedding for this family and I am not coy at all in saying that they have a life-time discount should they book me again. Why? Because good kind people creating good kind atmospheres and that is the sort of working environment I love. Life is too short - we must embrace human connections and experiences that make us feel wholesome, whenever we can. Because that’s what stays with us… and this wedding was full of those experiences…

So the very virtue-signalling moral of the story is… don’t try to impress your guests or anyone with anything other than what Emma and Matt wow us with: just a good old dose of what’s important - love, kindness and a very very very strong sense of community.

And isn’t that why we have weddings in the first place?
