Asylum Chapel + Peckham Liberal Club: a perfect wedding venue combo in real London…

I am going to say it: I love real London. Real real London. To be totally upfront, I love most of London when it comes to weddings. BUT… there is something totally wholesome about shooting a wedding of two people who are very keen to say “This is us, love us and root for us”. And this amazing venue combo enabled this couple to do just this.

Asylum Chapel is a very quirky venue bang in the middle of what feels like real old London. The ungentrified, the London as it was. The staff there are kind, welcoming and efficient. The surroundings can feel limiting on the day as you are restricted to only certain areas of the grass at the front of the venue (for all the right reasons)… BUT this little problem is easily overlooked by the insane charm of the place and the statement you might want to make about the sort of wedding you want to plan: different, wholesome, creative. If you do want a venue where kids can run around freely and guests roam anywherre then maybe this isn’t for you.

I have to say that the reason why this wedding is one of my 2024 highlights is more because of the reception venue: the Peckham Liberal Club. If you were brought up in the 80s, get ready for a bit of nostalgia… and if you weren’t, then it might (I quote a guest here) “Feel like you are on the set of “Stranger things””.

Instead of describing it badly with words, I prefer to leave you with some images of the day which will do that job visually perfectly.

Before I do so, please let me leave with a pro tip for your wedding day: complicate things you want to complicate and simplify the things you want to simplify. In other words… there is no one you need to compete with and you only have the one day in your life when you can say as loudly as you want “We are who we are and thank you for loving us, just as we are”.

If you are planning your wedding for 2025 or beyond and need a photographer who has a passion for telling stories with humanity in a kind, relaxed and easy-going manner, then you and I may be a good fit. The vast majority of couple who book me want someone who they are basically not aware of on the day… and that’s me. If I do my job right, in decades to come, you won’t remember me but you’ll remember your images and how they make you feel.

Just a heads up, I only take on a limited number of weddings a year with 25% availability left for next year.
