Fanhams Hall Wedding Photography: How lucky can you be with the weather?!

So on the morning of the 29th October, I checked my phone for the weather… and the double rain drops flood my phone screen. Whoops. Oh well…

I got to the venue and as I was sketching out my portrait walk, Sam came to find me to come and say hello. Just to come and say hello. I can’t tell you the difference kindness makes and how important connections are in our profession. The minute you make a good connection with a client, or with a photographer, you know the day ahead is going to be a lovely one. And it really was. Even the weather turned out not to be so bad…

To tell you the truth, providing I can keep my gear protected, I really don’t mind a bit of rain. People’s reactions are brilliant in the rain or the wind and produce fantastic candid moments that we remember (see below!), colours from buildings pop and you know what… when you’ve been planning your wedding for a few months, you just want to get on with your day, and the weather becomes irrelevant. That’s what all the brides I have worked with have communicated to me over the years. And I guess, if you are interested in reportage and documentary photography, you probably tend to be more interested in the “real”, rather than pretty “insta-perfect” images… as you can probably tell looking at my site, I don’t really specialise in those. 😜

As it happened, the heavens opened almost only when we were actually in the Holy Trinity Church in Wareside (which by the way was one of the prettiest churches I have ever seen)… it might have persisted a bit during the confetti shot, then more or less disappeared after that, which means we had lovely light for our portrait session in the grounds of Fanhams Hall later on during the wedding reception. So yes, how lucky was that?!

Anyway, our bride, here, Chelsea, and her groom, Sam were absolutely brilliant at taking the day as it was. We had a great laugh, and this meant, they relaxed and this meant we ended up with quite a few lovely shots.
